I have added your film reviews into my rotation with other writers like Vern, Scott Tobias/Keith Phipps, Nathan Rabin, Megan Nevarro, Katie Rife, Rachel Reeves, AA Dowd, and others. These critics are some of the best at writing about movies today IMO and I mention this because I think you’re just as strong in your writing as these guys. If this makes sense, I thought it was an extremely enjoyable movie that is also an extreme amount of gibberish, and yet it also made me think a lot less of Francis Ford Coppola. It's a movie of no era, made by someone who thinks so little of those around him. I read Rabin's review too and I TOTALLY understood it.
Also, where does the MEGALON come from? Come on. The movie pivots on this combination of unobtanium, vibranium, and just plain magic. It literally does anything the plot wants it to.
I’m picking up what your throwing down. I’m usually down for a blank check high on there own supply disaster but will probably wait to catch this on streaming. I can’t think of anything Cappola has made post Dracula that is even really decent let alone good.
An interesting list to make though would be directors that actually improved as filmmakers the older they got.
