I once had a job interview where the all white panel asked me "if you could travel back in time, where and when would you go?" I could just see the moment where they realized maybe that's a bad question to ask a black person. All I could think about was this movie!
You’ve written so much on some very upsetting practices from both the system and other inmates. Things that have stuck with me. I’ve talked to others about. I know this wasn’t the biggest obstacle/issue you faced but the fact that you couldn’t just play basketball, that you couldn’t just have that for like 30 minutes or whatever just really bothers me. There should just be some normalcy, even if just for a half hour or whatever, to some guys playing pick up ball and you not fear setting up a pick. Were these guys just all dribble down and shoot point guards?
Well, I tell you -- they loved to shoot first, second and third. And some of these guys had natural talent, real athletes, but they all played exactly the same. Which means if they passed, it was to another dude just standing there, as opposed to passing to where someone's gonna be. Group games were dreadful, everyone was on "Hero Ball" time. Eventually they all realized, hey, I play prison ball, I always have and always will. Sometimes that means vicious boxing out, and sometimes it means throwing my body out there for a loose ball.
I appreciate you touching a bit on the time travel mechanics and how they wouldn’t really work in many of these movies. These directors are a blind spot for me though and yours is not the only mostly positive review I’ve read.
Great review! Have you seen THE ENDLESS? I think that's my favorite of theirs and travels some of the same territory.
Thanks! I've seen a few of theirs, but I actually haven't seen this particular one yet. It's on my list.

I need to see The Endless. Lovecraftian cosmic horror right?
