Hard to say. JCVD kind of felt like an acknowledgement that there was more juice left in Van Damme, and he could do the same, but more. Schwarzenegger is so old here, and it's more real acting than it is being a towering action icon, new tricks from the old dog. He's also interesting in "Aftermath", another serious non-genre drama, though that movie isn't great.
Thanks! I will swear to it that Arnold has a couple deeper than normal acting moments in End of Days and pulls it off. It’s not one of his best movies obviously and has been mostly forgotten to time but I’ll go to bat for it. I was in high school in ‘99 and the Satan’s return on Y2K was silly but kinda fun. Gabriel Byrne ain’t Pacino but he was having fun with the role.
I remember wanting to watch this movie when it came out, but its reception was pretty negative with a lot of mixed reviews, and I kind of forgot about it totally. But yes, the main appeal was definitely Schwarzenegger playing a pretty rare, serious, and dramatic role. I might give it a chance one day.
If you're an Arnold fan and you want to see him stretch new muscles, I wouldn't hesitate. But it's definitely a zombie movie that wants to be taken "seriously" and on that regard it's a little silly.
1. I now want to see this movie. 2. The institution sadly/obviously cares about no one. It is very apparent that most institutions don’t- despite what they tell the general public.
If the institution actually wanted to get us all sick intentionally to create a herd immunity, they probably wouldn't have had to change the approach they took with us.
Also, I didn't really properly convey that this movie is needlessly, unconvincingly bleak, despite the strong performances. Would not recommend!
I need to finally check this one out.
Is this his JCVD moment or has it not come yet?

Have not watched that one either.

Yeah, that was exactly my dilemma back then.

I guess I misunderstood.
I’d recommend it, it gave me a better appreciation of Arnold as an actor.
Yeah, he is pretty good in this. Seeing him in a nonviolent setting is worthwhile.
