It's always telling that our politicians and even our DA's and judges, etc. - those who uphold the legal system and often natter on about being "tough on crime" or whatever, never, ever trust that very system when they or their own fall afoul of it. Nor should they, as you point out. But I wish we could all finally note how that distrust is staring us in the face 24/7, letting us know how crummy and disproportionate it is. "Terrorist" charges for Luigi Mogione being the latest high profile "oh ffs" facepalm-worthy abuse of said system.

Also, of course, Matt Gaetz bla bla bla.

Yeah, it's stuff like this that makes me wonder if these guys know what "tough on crime" really means. Like, is it tough to hire people to do your dirty work, to create a charade of justice by perp walking Luigi with terror charges?

You know who didn't get terrorist charges? Dylann Roof, who shot up a Black church, killed several. And you know who basically essentially signed his death warrant this week? Joe Biden. It's all chaos, in other words, when "law" is allegedly meant to keep pace with "order".

If you're powerful, the system works when you want it to work. Everyone else is just a potential victim to a bunch of garbage-talking scumbags in power.

That last part, of course, is the criticism toward Biden for pardoning his son - it’s another example of the system being whatever you want it to be if you have the power to make it so. That isn’t to say Biden shouldn’t have, just that ONLY Biden (and those with the ability) get to do so while ignoring the injustices endemic to the whole system. (Plus, it would have been nicei f he’s pardoned others first, then tossed his son in there for good measure vs. Hunter being the very first. That smacked a little too much of the privilege of power.)
