Well, I tell ya, I've got a real nerdy-ass theory on the Fantastic Four casting.

I think they had difficulty casting those roles, and I think a lot of people turned them down, because the situation is kind of complicated.

I think this might not end up being a franchise thing.

Because they've already established this new movie will take place in the 1960's, but in a world that is distinctly not the MCU. And the movie will deal with the incursions discussed in previous Marvel movies, except that in this case the MCU will crash into THEIR world. To prevent this, Reed Richards will take drastic steps that will put the Fantastic Four in an adversarial role. In other words, this would make the Fantastic Four into, basically, antagonists in "Avengers: Secret Wars".

That, in addition to the reality that the film had difficulty finding a director, probably led to cold feet from a lot of performers. I heard Emma Stone was asking for $20 million, which may have been a strategic bluff.

As for writing, I didn't need the Hobby Shop for that. I wrote all the time. But I was strictly writing for myself, and for those on the outside. And often writing for other people. Wish I had the Great American Novel to show for it.

Your theory definitely tracks given the track record of previous FF movies. I was unaware of how difficult it was to find director and cast for this one but it makes sense. Thanks for sharing that about your writing.
