I watched Cold Pursuit on Netflix a while back and found it pretty dull and forgettable. Grace (Nels's wife) was so underdeveloped I thought she could have been cut entirely without making any difference. It appears the character wasn't even in the original, which probably explains why. I hadn't realized it was a remake. Still it felt almost insulting she was even included.
The original really has a low-key, low-temperature Nordic appeal, it's nothing special. I think the remake is a little superior, actually. But this is one of those rare times where everyone involved was trying to make a fairly small movie with a few interesting characters and just a couple of moderate gags.
Laura Dern's character does feel like a weird oversight -- I guess it was a good paycheck for minimal work. I remember her character being a bigger part of the original film, but not by much.

Anyway, I'll have to checkout the original.
